All stone surfaces to be fixed to the floor or walls should be sealed with PVA or similar. This also applies to the surfaces to which the stone is to be fixed to. The wall, floor, and hearth should be completely dry before installation.

INSTALLATION MATERIALS
Only white or clear adhesive should be used. If using silicone ensure it is not oil based as the oil will discolour the stone. Hearths should be bedded on a mix of washed sand, white cement (Snowcrete) and lime. Do not use grey cement, builders' sand or Carlite Bonding as these products may discolour the stone.

INSTALLATION

  1. Centre and level the hearth in position. Allow to dry sufficiently so as to avoid 'slumping' when weight is applied.
  2. Position legs on hearth so as to correspond with the fireplace lintel and mark with a pencil. Brackets screws and plugs are supplied and are recommended to be used.
  3. Back Panel should now be fixed using mastic or coving adhesive and the edges filled and sealed with lime mortar.
  4. The fireplace lintel should be fixed in place using brackets supplied. Care should be taken to ensure any mouldings/chamfers line up with each other.
  5. Place the shelf centrally on the fireplace and fix in position.

CLEANING AND FINISHING
Having completed the installation, the fireplace should be cleaned with warm soapy water to remove and fixing material residue. Stubborn stains can be removed using liquid domestic bleach. Any small chips or scratches can be remedied using a fine grade 'wet and dry' sandpaper

If required the joints can be filled using suitable coloured tile grout. The fireplace should now be left to thoroughly dry and then seal with the sealer supplied. The sealer can be sprayed evenly over the surface of the stone and rubbed in. Do not allow sealer to dry before rubbing in.

Solid Hearths are only to be used for gas fire installations. If using solid fuel please check with your supplier before installation.

Installation of our fireplaces is recommended by qualified fitters. It is not as simple as it looks. If you are attempting it yourself be sure you are fully familiar with the correct procedures.
